BACKGROUND
HISTORY: wiki
PERSONALITY: Answer three of the following questions. Limit this section to 500-1,000 words in total, or 150-300 words per question. What impression does your character give when meeting someone for the first time? How does the first impression differ from your character’s true nature? At first impression, it is difficult to not be swept up by Lestat; he is a loud, bold and defiant young man who makes it his mission to catch every eye in the room and greedily keep their attention, whether through his dress or his attitude. Being a vampire, he also casts a natural thrall over humans that has them somewhat enchanted by his ethereal appearance. So that helps.
Being an aristocrat, he has a certain flair for the extravagant which can be seen through his love of material possessions and in his idolising of physical beauty, but also in his sense of entitlement which can often come off a little conceited. He knows damn well how attractive he is, and he uses it to his advantage; he loves to flirt and manipulate people into doing what he wants of them… Whether it be settling down in a flat in New Orleans with him and 'adopting' a child, or becoming his next meal.
He is enthusiastic and energetic about most things -- which is his true nature -- but it is also true that he has a temper like a whip crack and can fast become sullen and acidic with little to no apparent reason for it. He is stubborn, proud, does not like to be told he's wrong and hates to be defied. Lestat must always feel in a position of power, lest his confidence fail him.
Despite Lestat being wildly charismatic, he is incredibly lonely and harbours a slightly tortured soul as he struggles with the moral issue of what he is and how much he loves it.What are your character’s fears? How do they hinder or challenge your character? (tw: suicide mention)
Because of the nature of vampires and the strength with which they feel emotions, Lestat's fears are numerous, though he might deny it fervently.
The most prevalent of all of Lestat's fears is the idea of being alone.
When Lestat was reborn as a vampire he was immediately flung into the dark gift alone after watching his maker, who had nothing else to live for, jump into fire to his death. Soon after this Lestat makes his dying mother his first fledgling, followed closely by his friend and lover, Nicki. He does this to keep them both with him forever, but ultimately the change forces them both away from him; his mother longs for isolation, and Nicki's depression - heightened by the dark gift - pushes him to ending his life.
The same can be said of his decision to turn Louis, who in all fairness he does not know very well at the time of his change; Lestat acts on impulse, charmed and enraptured by the depth of Louis' emotions and the strength of his convictions, and convinces himself that Louis will be a good companion for him. When Louis doesn't react to the change well and asks Lestat questions he finds difficult to answer, Lestat becomes closed-off, domineering and possessive in a desperate bid to make Louis stay with him. He even goes as far as to create a child vampire of Claudia for Louis when he threatens to leave.
All his actions for those he loves end up hindering his ability to be happy; he struggles to be honest for fear that what he is at his core is something unloveable, and fears that even when he does mean well, his actions will cause ruin as they have so many times in the past.
(i wanna add something here about him Doing Better at the end of qotd but i cannot figure out how to phrase it aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa)What are your character’s ambitions/goals? Why are they important to your character? Lestat is as hedonistic as they come. Many of his ambitions are self-serving, but with good reason. Sometimes.
As mentioned in the question above, Lestat craves company and love above all else, but he also craves more philosophical completion, too. Lestat enjoys being a vampire, embracing and even thriving in doing the things he must do to survive, and with a surprisingly good attitude despite the traumatic things he's experienced. But Lestat will often ponder the definitions of good and bad in the context of his own actions and of vampires in general.
Akasha could see his desperation to define the goodness in himself warring with his love of the kill, and told him the only way he could do good as a vampire was through mass murder. This horrified Lestat and had him questioning his interpretation of his own evil and what goodness he is capable of. He frequently boasts that he is bad and that he loves being so, but will often do things seemingly with good intention, which calls into consideration how much of his evil habits are forced or hyperbole.
Lestat also craves control as he has lacked agency his entire life -- his father was suffocating and abusive; he finds his mentor only to be given a set of restrictive rules about being a vampire that takes all the fun out of it; he's kidnapped by a paramour who stifles his attitude and tries to make him obedient against his will; and because he's so often hoping for the best and falls in love with people and ideas easily he ends up being rather easy to manipulate. As an idealist, Lestat naturally resists authority and comes to find delight in breaking rules (sometimes purely for the sake of it) to wrestle back autonomy for himself. He wants to pave his own way until he has things the way he likes them.
INVENTORY: He has a Sony Walkman cassette player in his pocket, with a pair of headphones attached. It's very compact and small, runs on batteries, and only has one tape: Mötley Crüe's Shout at the Devil album.
(lmao - i might delete this, i just think its funny)
POWERS
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
■ Vampire: Lestat is a vampire and quite a powerful one at that.
□ Telepathy & Mesmerism - Lestat can read the mind of most humans and other supernatural creatures too, unless they are consciously blocking him out with psychic defences. He can use this ability to communicate non-verbally and also to influence humans into doing what he wants them to - putting them in a vampire thrall - though he rarely feels the need to do this.
□ Immortality - Lestat will never die, never age and will never look anything unlike he does now; if his hair is cut or his nails broken, these seem to "reset" when he rises from sleep.
□ Rapid Healing - If Lestat is scratched/bitten/wounded he heals remarkably fast without scarring or bruising. If Lestat is lethally wounded - his throat cut, any body parts severed - as long as he has a supply of living blood he can heal/reattach eventually. Lestat can also use his vampiric blood to heal human injuries as long as the blood can make contact; he can't heal brain damage or broken bones but he can cover his bite marks and prevent bleed outs.
□ Fledglings - Lestat can bring humans into the Dark Gift with him and turn them into vampires by draining the victim of blood and sharing his own blood with them at the moment before death. Lestat has a lot of hang-ups about not doing this without express permission from the person in question and usually only does it to people he cares deeply for. Obviously this would only be done with permission from players and mods if it did ever come up.
□ Physical Abilities - Lestat is much faster, stronger and quieter than a regular human man; he can climb walls and ceilings and jump from them without harm; he can conceal his footsteps in order to go undetected; he can break concrete and iron and crush a human skull with very little effort, and he can move his limbs so fast that to the human eye it often goes unseen.
■ Elder Blood: From his pull-point he has recently shared blood with the Queen of the Damned, Akasha, who was one of the first vampires with incredibly strong powers. Through sharing her blood, Lestat has taken on some of her ability.
□ Lestat can fly with pure intention of will. All he has to do is think about flying and he can lift into the air. He often utilizes this skill to take him across the globe to different countries.
□ Lestat can allow his 'soul' to leave his body and float above it as though a spirit.
□ Lestat's skin is closer to marble than the typical pale skin of a vampire. He doesn't have as much texture to his skin, and he is painfully cold to the touch; difficult to do so for extended periods of time for mortals.
□ All his typical vampire powers are heightened; he can hear at greater distances and in greater detail, he can close his own mind to much stronger influences and is capable of pyrokinesis.
■ Theatrical: From his time in theatres and on stage, Lestat has nurtured his natural performative nature and has excellent skills as an actor, dancer and a musician; he can confidently play piano and the violin, and he has a lovely singing voice.
■ Vitality: Even before being turned Lestat had considerable strength and will to live; he survived childhood unlike four of his siblings and despite being a somewhat underfed noble in rural frozen France, he killed a pack of wolves with the help of his dogs and endured almost dying in the process, which was quite the feat. As a vampire he can withstand having all of his blood drained, and also survives being the victim of attempted arson which is usually lethal for vampires. You just can't kill the guy! He's like a cockroach... a sexy, bloodsucking cockroach.
NERFING: (Lestat is an incredibly strong vampire. I've nerfed these to 20% logically, but if he needs to be nerfed a little more or if he needs any specific abilities to not be possible anymore, I'm totally fine with that!)
■ At 20% of his power Lestat will no longer have any of the increased abilities he had through taking in Elder Blood - so no flying or random house fires for this guy.
■ He will still be very strong and able to break things with his hands, but it will take more exertion rather than him doing it effortlessly. He will still be able to read minds (with ooc permission) but it will be harder for him to organise the information he sees/hears, and he will have to have some kind of connection (eye contact, physical touch) so he won't be able to do it discreetly.
■ He will maintain considerable talent when it comes to his perception and hearing, but it won't be as inhuman as it would normally be. He'll be nerfed to the sensory capabilities of a hunting dog; he will be able to hear sounds first or from a distance, and will be able to sense the presence of other people, and his sense of smell will remain stronger than a human's.
■ He will continue to be able to heal using his own blood and his body will heal faster than a human's, but he must have a constant supply of blood to do it with any speed. Without blood a small scratch will heal at the same speed as a more lethal wound would have before the nerf.
■ He will struggle more to resist the pull of the death sleep, as detailed in Weaknesses below.
WEAKNESSES:
■ Blood Drinking - Vampirism is also one of Lestat's greatest weaknesses, as despite the many abilities it gives him, he has a great dependency on the need to drink human blood to survive. This also leaves him susceptible to being poisoned or drugged through said blood (though not enough to kill him, it's not.. fun)
■ Burning - Fire and sunlight are the only known way to kill vampires aside from total atomic obliteration. If thrown into the sun they burn as if on fire, blistering and finally turning to ash.
■ Nocturnal - Lestat feels an uncontrollable urge to sleep with the rising of the sun. All vampires experience this death sleep; they fall completely comatose and cannot be woken. If an attempt is made to wake them or attack them while they are vulnerable, their bodies react without their control and viciously attack whoever might be trying to rouse them. Lestat canonly sleeps as little as possible, waking early and resisting the pull of the death sleep for as long as he can.
■ Anti-hero - Lestat is a victim of temptation at every turn, particularly from powerful people or even his own ideals, which often leads him to some terrible decisions. Being emotive and impulsive, Lestat can be a danger to himself and those around him when he gets an idea in his head, and he is very stubborn to changing his mind. He also loves to break rules and is a general terror, and he enjoys doing it.
