It's pretty common around here to know about ghost stories - since Singapore is a very small country and graves are continuously being exhumed for more living space and people commit suicide and lots of shaman types and black magic practitioners exist in the region, knowing how to deal with ghost, spirits and other things of the like them isn't pointless superstition as much as simply being practical.
So, one type of spirit that is common to this area is the toyol. I don't know who updated this page, but it's both hilarious and fairly accurate to what I know. In western terms, it's necromancy using a dead baby where you bind its spirit to its body. Personally I find it quite cute. It's only good for small things, like stealing bits of money, bringing you good luck and so on.
If you think someone has set one on you, you can just dump toys around like beads, which it'll promptly get distracted by. It's a baby, so it doesn't really have much of an attention span. If you hear marbles rolling around in the apartments around you at night, it could be one of them playing.
The main annoying thing about them? Well, you know how they say kids are a commitment? A dead ghost baby won't ever grow up, which means you're stuck attending to its needs forever. After you die, it'll pass on to your family. And if you try to destroy it or stop feeding it, it might kill you anyway.
The end.
Anyway, here's my post!
